At Better Yet we enjoy teaching committed riders who aspire to improve their skills at any level. Our students range from adult to as young as 5 years of age. Our goal is to teach basic skills, in and out of the saddle, which stay with our students as they progress. To ensure our students have solid fundamentals, we use dressage instruction to create a solid base for every discipline. Although most of our students lesson on their own horses, we can occasionally accommodate limited rides on our horses.
Training:
We start and finish horses of many breeds for a variety of disciplines. Every horse is an individual, and we take care to ensure that training issues are not the result of physical impediments such as dental, joint or soreness problems. As many training difficulties arise from physical problems, we encourage owners to work with us to resolve any health questions before asking a horse to increase their performance level. A horse that can focus on his work without pain is a happy and progressing horse. Young horses are started in the round pen with liberty work, long lining and driving as part of their education. We first teach horses the concepts of yielding to pressure, steering, and stopping in order to encourage future obedience to the aids. The round pen is also used to back our young horses.
Leasing: We offer leasing opportunities as a stepping stone between consistent lessons and horse ownership. Leasing provides the prospective horse owner with a chance to understand the responsibilities of ownership as well as the joy of having one's "own" horse. Our leasing programs are flexible and suited to the individuals' needs and goals.
Clinics:
Yet Borst has conducted clinics at various locations in the eastern United States and is available to teach in the disciplines of show jumping, eventing and dressage.
Better Yet also brings in outside clinicians to give students exposure to various teaching ideas and methods.
Show Services:
Not only can the team at Better Yet train, prepare and coach horse owners and their mounts to success, we also have the ability to show your horse for sale, record accumulation, or to gain mileage. Horses who have developed "issues" in the show ring benefit from the Better Yet training program. In addition to Henriette, a notable member of our team is young rider Barclay Powell, a multi-talented Junior rider who specializes in bringing out the best in fancy show ponies, both on the flat and over the fences.
HORSEMANSHIP
We use a progressive system of training based on positive reinforcement.
Our aim is to establish and develop a mutual understanding with the horse as a willing, relaxed, and supple partner. Training begins on the ground, transitioning to riding under saddle, and ultimately to the highest level of competition. Our training provides a solid foundation from which to build the performance horse of your dreams; a safe, solid, willing partner.
CARE
We take great pride in our horses' health and are committed to providing the highest level of care possible.
We use a "whole-horse" approach to training, making sure discomfort due to dental, chiropractic, or lameness problems are not contributing to training difficulties.
Our horses look and perform to optimum levels because we feed premium feed, top quality hay, and maintain a solid de-worming/vaccination program.
Horses are turned out individually daily.
